Parquet Floor 01 : In this photo, you can see the damage done by doing an improper fix. The patchwork actually lifted the flooring underneath the floor causing the parquet to lift as well.
Parquet Floor 02 : Now, you'll get a better look at exactly how much spray foam was used. It was actually sticking to the parquet. There is no 3/4 inch plywood, no weather stripping, no seal to prevent cold air from entering the apartment asides from the quick fix that was used.
Parquet Floor 03 : I removed more of the parquet flooring, to expose just how far the damage might be. As you can see by the dark spots, humidity and cold air are damaging your floor. The rest of the floor is cold and lifting due to the development of ice and humidity under the plywood base.
Parquet Floor 04 : Here's another shot from a different angle. You can also see where the snow is starting to enter, from underneath the damaged door.
Parquet Floor 05 : And yet another pic. Once the winter is done, if this isn't treated - you'll have alot more than just a little lifting of the floor. It will expand, the floor will lift more, the door is probally already finished, the 3/4 inch ply might also have to be removed. Once spring kicks in, the ice will melt, mould will form, and rot will develop.
Parquet Floor 06 : I suggest we start removing the parquet, expose the problem. Make the repairs to prevent air and water from entering. If it's not too late, I can seal the interior of the brick using cement. Expose the flooring structure to see how bad it is. Then if possible - restructure the floor as we should, insulate and vapor barrior the brick, and rebuild the floor. We want to do this before ice thaws and takes out the ceiling and spreads to the floor underneath. Front brick pointing should also be done - Asap!
Parquet Floor 07 : It's a Go! The parquet flooring throughout the apartment is done. It's dull, lifting in multiple places including under the fridge and dining room table. I noticed play in the floors (basically, you walk and see the floor move). What I will do is remove the parquet, cut out the 3/4 softspots and see if all the underfloor will have to be replaced. So far, not so bad. It looks like I might get away with flooring patches - meaning - rebuilding only sections of the floor, We will soon see - Removing parquet flooring is a long annoying process - each tile is glued to the 3/4 - meaning ... alot of grunt work. Lets get the hammers and prybars.
