Just Added : Photo's 22 - 30 - Fence Completed
You know the season has fully kicked in - when fences and balcony's are the most requested projects your friends call you for :) Today - we started a big fence that was basically falling down on it's own. The wood was rotted and the fence itself was being held up by scrap wood. It was time for it to go.
What was funny was - as soon as we took down the old fence, in about two hours, all the neighbours rushed outside and wanted theirs down as well. It looks like a busy week or two of fence work.
We decided not to mess around with picks and shovels to make our holes, we rented a commercial power auger. This machine is hard core. It takes 2 men just to hold it steady while it tunnels into dirt and clay. If you catch a rock and you give it too much gas - you'll be tossed like a rag doll - Be Carefull
Brossard Fence 01 : Here's a look at one of the fences that must go.
Brossard Fence 02 : Here's a look at a neighbours fence - next on the list.
Brossard Fence 03 : Another Angle.
Brossard Fence 04 : Now that the fence is down - I chainsaw the fence into smaller pieces - ready to be taken to the local dump. Always have on Eye Protection when using a Chainsaw. I am just sizing up my cuts - but when I actually do the sawing - glasses.
Brossard Fence 05 : John's Camera Crazy - lol Same rule as above please.
Brossard Fence 06 : Here's Johnny! As you can see, the fence posts are a go. We always go overboard when we do fences - we want them rock solid. I know Home Depot will tell you to just do cement in the corner posts, end posts and gate posts - but we cement them all. The 4" gravel base is set.
Home Depot also recommends 6" of cement - we do 36". Hey lol - It's only $3 a bag of cement - do you think out friend will complain - No :)
You'll also notice the Power Auger waiting for another hole to be dug.
Brossard Fence 07 : Progress :) The majority of the posts have been dug and set. Before we leave - we setup our support beams to make sure our posts don't move overnight - while the cement cures. Clean Up!
Brossard Fence 08 : This is what you want to see, when installing a fence. A perfectly level line.
Brossard Fence 09 : Now, we begin the installation of the fence boards.
Brossard Fence 10 : To make life easier and faster, we pre-nailed the deck screws to the fence boards prior to screwing them in the wood. After a few hundred screws, your arm tends to get very sore - so this method allows us to switch arms - and screw much quicker.
Brossard Fence 11 : .... and more scewing .....
Brossard Fence 12 : .... and more scewing ..... lol
Brossard Fence 13 : Fence 01 is completed - so down with fence 02
Brossard Fence 14 : Another angle of fence 02
Brossard Fence 15 : As you can notice ... the land drops quickly. Our friend decided to drop complete sections of fence, instead of building the fence on an angle. So, we start popping our posts and continue. The weather is not being very nice to us - but the show must go on :)
Brossard Fence 16 : That's Me :P The rain killed my work camera, so until I get another - I am using my crapberry - ooops - blackberry to take the rest of the pics. This machine is called a power auger. It's used to make our holes.
Brossard Fence 17 : Here's a shot of the holes we make. Over 36" deep, a 4" gravel base ( water drainage ) , a tube ( pretty cement fill ), and the rest is cement. Eat your heart out Home Depot :P - This is a solid post!
Brossard Fence 18 : That's it for fence II. We still have to do a few trims and add caps - but in a nutshell - here's the Fence 2.
Brossard Fence 19 : Another look at Fence 2. Our friend chose this drop and it looks pretty good. Still a few cuts and caps to do.
Brossard Fence 20 : Here's a picture from the neighbours yard.
Brossard Fence 21 : And another closer shot, so you can see how level and straight this fence is. Looks darn good :)
Brossard Fence 21 : Come Back Tomorrow! We finish Fence 1 and Fence 2 and we start Fence 3 - So much for a weekend off lol - Cya Soon :) |
