NDG Bathroom 01 : Here's a photo of the original bathroom. As you can see, it was due for a major facelift. I was told the bathroom was built about 40 years ago - and I was impressed! It was built rock solid!
NDG Bathroom 02 : Here, you can see that time has taken it tole. The grout has seen it's last days. Water has penetrated the window and rotted out all of the framing. It was time for change :)
NDG Bathroom 03 : Here's a better look at the window. Before we repaired the window, in phase I - we siliconed all of the exterior windows from the outside, to help stop the rain water from coming inside.
NDG Bathroom 04 : Now we have the bathroom emptied. It took about 40 bags just to remove the debris from the old tiles and cement board.
NDG Bathroom 05 : Here's another photo from a different angle.
NDG Bathroom 06 : In this pic, here's a closeup of what became our plumbing nightmare. As you can see - the plumber carelessly installed the plastic tube piping, without even notching out holes and adding faceplates. Below this, it just got worse. But, that's another story altogether.
NDG Bathroom 07 : We finally got a bit of luck, the floors were old, but solid. We had to repair a few places, screw everything down, but everything was level and sound. We start adding our cement board flooring.
NDG Bathroom 08 : Before you put walls back up, the wiring has to be changed. That's when we discovered our electrical nightmare. We coulden't believe what we seen. In this photo, look at the fan box. Notice the wiring that is taped on the exterior of the box - Why the exterior? Why no marrets? Wow, if there was a surge - that was a fire waiting to happen.
NDG Bathroom 09 : In this photo - our jaws dropped. Even if you never did an electrical project before, you know the wires are supposed to be in the housing to prevent surge sparks or fire. Everywire that was connected here, was connected outside the box and taped - Incredible!
NDG Bathroom 10 : Here's a better photo with the box removed. This was by far - the worst electrical job I've ever seen. I was speachless.
NDG Bathroom 11 : The walls are all up, now we begin framing the ceiling to hide the maze of pipes from an upstairs bathroom.
NDG Bathroom 12 : I had to include this photo lol. No worries, there were no toilets harmed in the making of this photo. Ray's actually sitting on a tub of cement compound texting a friend. Looks funny as hell though :P
NDG Bathroom 13 : And here it is - ready for tiles. The ceilings up, the lights are installed, the plumbing and the electrical is propely installed. All that is left to do is - form the floor for the shower drain, install the fittings, do the tiles, paint what needs to be painted. Add the toilet and sink and that's it. In about a week - the custom bathroom should be complete.
