Tile terminology can be confusing. Most types of tiles that are made from clay or a mixture of clay and other materials, then kiln-fired, are considered to be a part of the larger classification called “Ceramic Tiles”. These tiles can be split into two groups, porcelain tiles and non-porcelain tiles. These non-porcelain tiles are frequently referred to as ceramic tiles by themselves, separate from porcelain tiles.
PEI classes range from 0 to 5. The Porcelain Enamel Institute rating scale is not a measurement of quality. It is a scale that clearly indicates the areas of use each manufacturer recommends and has designed their tile to fit. A PEI 2 tile has been designed for areas where very low traffic and soiling is anticipated. In most cases the aesthetic detailing of these tiles is of prime consideration. You will often find high gloss levels, vibrant colorations and metallic elements in this group of tile. Conversely, a PEI 5 tile has been designed for abusive extra heavy foot traffic. The technical aspects such as surface abrasion resistance will be considered and must be achieved first before aesthetic effects are incorporated.

Natural stone tiles such as granite, slate, marble and tumbled marble are cut from large blocks of stone mined from quarries. Most stones are porous and readily absorb liquids and moisture. Tiles made from natural stone may vary greatly in colour and veining. Slate resists fading, abrasion and chemicals and is ideal for interior and exterior floors, walls and tabletops.

Marble has a smooth high-polish surface and tumbled marble bears a weathered and distressed surface to capture the look from centuries past. They are suitable for interior walls and moderate-duty floors. Glass tiles are made of impervious glass. Their translucent nature captures and diffuses light.

Mosaic tiles are small tiles, generally 2"x2" or smaller, and always less than six square inches in area. Mosaic tiles may be made from porcelain, tumbled marble, glass or metal. These tiles are most often mounted on paper, mesh or dot-mounted sheets to facilitate easier handling and installation. Hardwood tiles are pre-finished and coated with UV cured polyurethane for wearability. These self-adhesive acoustic tiles are made from genuine wood and are easy to install.

Now Sophie has the bathroom she wants and she gained a spare play room for her child. We added a pocket door and relocated the washer and dryer to our new bathroom. By installing the new bathtub in the new location, we used up unused space - while freeing up used space we needed for the appliances.
