BOUGIE PROJECTS
Project : Repair Damaged Ceiling Caused By Water Damage
A hole in the ceiling (2X3 feet), caused by water damage, needed to be closed up. A plumber already had fixed the leak. What we did, was make the hole alittle bigger to expose the beams required to hold our drywall up. We then reinforced the ceiling to make sure there would be no sagging once we've completed the repair. This was a typical repair, the only thing that made it a little harder was the incredible light fixture that was located directly next to the hole. As you can see, there is almost no possible way to cover this fixture, so we just have to be extra careful. The other thing that was out of the ordinary, was the ceiling was actually double drywall (usually only single), this must have been done to act as a better firewall shield, and a noise reduction shield. Three hours later, we were done. All that's left to do after drying, is a light wet sand before painting :)

Step By Step : Each Photo Explained.

01 Ceiling Repair
Here's the hole. We already straightened out cut the hole to make a cleaner finish to the drywall we will be adding. If you enlarge the photo, you'll notice the ceiling is not one, but two sheets of drywall.

02 Ceiling Repair
Before we add our drywall. The existing ceiling must be reinforced to prevent sagging once we've installed our patch. It makes for a nice even finish in the end.

03 Ceiling Repair
This is called tape and first pass. We add the tape on all sides of the patch we've put up, to act as both a seamless merge of the patch and ceiling, and to bind the patch and the ceiling so no lines will be showing once everything is dry.

04 Ceiling Repair
This is called second pass. More plaster has been added to level any imperfections and ruts. We don't want anyone to ever know there was a hole there to begin with.

05 Ceiling Repair
This is the final stage. Glaze. This final pass with plaster is done to smooth out all the work that was done. There is no lines, bumps, and the edges are smooth and almost ready for paint. All that's left to do, before painting is a wet sand or smooth paper sand, just to make sure all is perfect.

06 Ceiling Repair
That's all folks. Our friend wants to paint himself, so we inform him to give it a final sand once all is dry. You'll know it's dry when it basically turns all white. I'd wait at least 24 hours before sanding, just to be positive. I had to include a shot of the light fixture - Wow!
