Project : Painting The Never Ending Metal Exterior
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Step By Step : Each Photo Explained.
01 The Nightmare
When I took these photo's - I wasn't warned of just how much railing was involved in this project, I was just told it was backyard metal railing and fence. My jaw dropped when I arrived lol - the photo's do not show the actual length and height of the metalwork involved, and the detail - Wow!.
02 Nightmare Two
The entraceway to the backyard was about 10 feet high. The entire gate and fencing had to be scraped, and in some cases, grinded to remove the rust bubbles that were everywhere. This is standard - but like I said - I was not at all informed of the details and mass of the project - I can see why the painter wanted no part of this project lol.
03 Nightmare Three
Here's another shot, so you can get a better picture of just how long this fence is. I said I'd do it - so I will - but this is no small job. I'll paint the interior of an entire home before I do one of these again. Asides from the massive amount of prep work involved - some days it's raining, other days it's super hot. Not to mention - working with oil paint is a real pain in the butt :P
04 Never Ending
I'll spare you all the boring sanding and grinding photo's, but here's another look at the details involved with the fencing. This is old school real deal iron work. They don't make it like this anymore.
05 And Even More
I had to - I had to :) Ok - One last pic to call it a day.
06 Silver Top Coat
The scraping is done, the grinding is done, and we lost 3 days due to rain. I add the first bit of silver paint - whew. After all the prep work - it's really nice to see paint finally go on this project - and how often is it that you work with silver pain? Pretty! It's my new favorite color lol.
07 Silver Details
Before - I was moaning and groaning about the details in the iron work, that's because we still had to prep. Now - I love the details! The silver paint really brings out the work involved with creating this fence in the first place. I wonder if they had silver paint back then?
08 Looking Good
Now I remember why I love what I do - This fence is looking sweet. Could the project be done better? Sure ... but it would have taken a specilized company to first remove all the metal work, rebuild and remould the iron work in many places, acid wash, prime and spray. It would have cost a fortune! Our friend is very happy with the project - and she saved a ton of cash.
09 Silver Painted
Here it is - the finished project. It took me about 6 days, 4 days alone for the prep - but it's worth it in the end. The yard looks brighter, the rusting and the rotting of the metal has been delayed - and for some reason, the yard looks much bigger?
10 Beautiful
One last look at all this metal. I hated it at first - but now I'd like to have a pic nic in this yard. I think my friend wants me gone now though lol.
