I
see it all the time - some painters advertise incredibly low prices
just to get the client to sign on the dotted line. What you should know
is, most times if it sounds too good to be true - it's because it is.
3
1/2 for $250 - 4 1/2 for $350 - 5 1/2 for $450 etc ... It sounds
Amazing! If it was true - I'd use them myself. What you don't know is -
these prices are at best, based on a one coat paint job. Don't allow
yourself to get caught with a bill that is 3X that price in the end.
Tips
for Saving Money and not getting the Shock of your Life are : Find out
if paint is included. How many coats does this include? What about the
wall repairs and touch ups? What about materials such as brushes and
tarps? Is this a student trying to make a buck on the side or a pro? If
you buy your own paint - and you should - what are the rates now? Are
the doors and windows included with this price? What about closets and
baseboards? What if you would like multiple colors painted? The list
can go on and on ....
Example : If a
Painter charges 0.40 cents a square foot. Your home has 2000 square feet of space that needs painting. What
you will do is multiply 2000 X 0.40 = $800 not including paint. See our table below to calculate your exact cost of labour per room.
|

Example : May 2009
10 Foot By 10 Foot Room : ( 8 Foot High Walls)

Ceiling = 10 long x 10 wide = 100 x 0.40 = $ 40.00
Wall 01 = 10 long x 08 high = 080 x 0.40 = $ 32.00
Wall 02 = 10 long x 08 high = 080 x 0.40 = $ 32.00
Wall 03 = 08 long x 08 high = 064 x 0.40 = $ 25.60
Wall 04 = 08 long x 08 high = 064 x 0.40 = $ 25.60

Total = 100 + 80 + 80 + 64 + 64 = 388 s/f x 0.40
Total = Includes Two Paint Passes And Basic Wall Repairs
Total = Price Includes Celings, Trim, Doors and Baseboards
Cost = $155.20

Extra's You May Expect : Paint, Primer, Sandpaper, Rollers, Brushes
Pro's Must Include : Supplies, Drop Clothes, Roller Holders, Poles, Trays ...

= 0.20 Cents For Each Square Foot Of Paint Pass Per Coat Of Paint

TIP : Make Sure Your Painter Includes Doors, Trim, Borders, and Closets in Your Free Written Estimate. How many Coats? Primer? Plaster?

TIP : Never Agree To Paint Included! You'll pay premium price for cheap paint. Buy your own paint. Go get your own paint - some painters refill old pails of best brand paints using bargain bulk paint.
