Step By Step : Each Photo Explained.

01 Tiles
My project today is to remove the old ugly cracking vinyl tiles located in the entryway and replace them with ceramic tile. This pic, you can see the mess I'm creating lol. The black glue tar on the floor is so strong, it almost ripped the sole off of my running shoes.

02 Tiles
To solve this sticky problem and to make sure my tiles stick properly on the floor, I glaze the tar with cement. I want it thin enough to dry quickly, but thick enough to cover everything smoothly. I would have liked to just change the plywood, but my friend was against the idea.

03 Tiles
It's very hot outside, even with the door closed it's hot. But, it makes the cement glaze dry quicker. I used some of the old tiles as a pad for my knee's, so I would mess up the cement glaze I added. I then proceeded to add the second half of the glaze to cover the remaining glue.

04 Tiles
Here's a closer look. It's flush and smooth enough to lay down my tiles.

05 Tiles
Laying the tiles here takes me little time. The area is small. The only thing that consumes my time, is the trimming and cutting of the tiles to form a nice edge around stairs and door frame.

06 Tiles
The jobs just about done. Two more tiles left :) Once I've glued them down, I'll call it a day to allow the tiles to dry properly onto the tile cement. Some people wait a few hours then add the grout, but I prefer to allow the glue to dry properly before grouting because I don't want them to lift in a week because the project was not done right.

07 Tiles
That's all folks. This is day two. I mixed my grout, added the grout to the tiles, sponged and cleaned up in all about one hour. It's too bad. I wanted to take a shot from the bottom of the basement stairs to show the gold edging I added. Oh well, you'll see that in other tile projects I add to this web site :)

08 Tiles
The entryway to this Baie D'Urfe home is now complete :) What an amazing difference! I asked my friend to avoid walking on it for about another day. Just to allow the grout to dry properly. I have more work to do here in the next week or so, that's when I'll seal the grout. Cya next Project :)
