Our Project - is to empty the kitchen, including the demolition of a large brick stove vent structure, replace the walls with both insulation and double fire code drywall, remove the floor tile and replace with new tiles.
The custom kitchen cabinet's that will be later installed when we are done, is to be created by an outside company. The measurements must be exact due to the size of the kitchen and limited space for such a large setup. Plumbing and electricity is also outsourced and giving us many headaches.
The demolition had to be done carefully, the dining room next to the kitchen is entirely walled with custom smoked glass mirror. One wrong move, and a very expensive wall would have to be repaired. See photo # During 09
Constant headaches and delays would not stop. The plumber delayed us, the electrician constantly delayed us, then the vent people delayed us. We had to be patient because non of these delays could be helped. To make matters even more frustrating, bad plumbing was done by whoever installed the bath room upstairs above the kitchen. Main support beams were dangerously cut, an old rotted pipe burst, and then roofers came to work all at the same time!
Even though, we were all stepping on each other's toes - everyone got along well and made the best of the situation. We helped the plumbers and the electricians. The electrician's could not rewire the kitchen and pot lights without our studs, the vent guys for some reason or another - did not have have the tools to do their job - so we helped with this. We needed the housing for the lights installed before we can close the ceiling.
All in all - asides from a few frustrating moments, everything worked out well. We had other things to do around the house, while the others contractors did what they had to do. Carol was really sweet, Hurb was really understanding.
